As part of its national missions, the Bibliothèque publique d’information (Bpi) implements research programs that focus on public libraries, reading practices and access to information and knowledge practices.

For its new research program (2023-2024), the Bpi has entrusted Villes Innovations and LUCAS with research devoted to the emergence of new types of municipal libraries-media libraries that have appeared in France over the last twenty years, such as:
– “third place” or “third place” libraries;
– shared or hybrid establishments;
– Establishments designed or run with the participation of local populations.
